Watchiya! Greetings!  Bonjour! Welcome to our website. The Cree community of Whapmagoostui, with a population of 850, is situated at the mouth of the Great Whale River, just North of the 55" parallel, off the east coast of Hudson's Bay.

We are proud of Whapmagoostui, since it has the distinction of being the only Cree community in the North to be situated right beside an Inuit municipality.   We take pride in our language, traditions, customs and the values passed on to us that help shape the positive bonds and friendly relations we have with our neighbors and visitors.   The multicultural dimension and warm hospitality that results from two communities being situated in close proximity is something that visitors notice immediately and enjoy.

Although Whapmagoostui is geographically isolated with no access road to the South, the Internet and other telecommunications technology is our link to the outside world.   Residents also enjoy access to modern facilities such as, an arena, gymnasium, swimming pool, health clinic and an elementary and secondary school and a variety of businesses and stores. Two airlines, Air Creebec and Air Inuit, service our community.

If you wish to experience the warmth of Cree hospitality, Whapmagoostui is just one trip away.

Thank you for visiting our website! Ginscoomdinan!!

Chief Losty Mamianskum
