Watchiya! Greetings!  Bonjour!

On behalf of the Whapmagoostui Eeyouch, I would like to express my sincerest
greetings to all the people of Eeyou Estchee !

Whapmagoostui is home to more than 800 Cree and is located just above the 55th
parallel on the eastern Hudson Bay coast, the only Cree community that lives side by side with an Inuit community; Kuujjuaraapik. For many, we are commonly known as the Twin Communities of James Bay and Nunavik, the gateway to Hudson Bay and the north. This is the place of the whales, vitalizing beaches and mountains and where the northern forest meets the vast arctic tundra.

If you ever get the chance of a lifetime to explore and embark on an adventure, this should be your destination. The landscape is inspiring and serves as a reminder of the importance of sustaining the land. The significance of our language, culture and customs is clearly visible as we continue to preserve our way of life as Eeyouch. Once you are here, you will feel the warmth and sharing comfort of the People.

Whapmagoostui has the last of the mighty rivers within the Cree Nation. We are
proud, glorious and will continue to preserve it, for it has world class rapids, hunting and fishing spots.

Although we have long cold winter nights and are secluded, the abundance of traditional and recreational activities is endless. Hiking and snowshoe trails, Ski-doo and ATV trails, spectacular lakes and the magnificent Manitounuk Sound are all waiting to be experienced.

We offer a broad range of services, essential comforts and facilities. Communication-wise, we provide cell phone service to our community and all its visitors. As Cree people, we must pursue every opportunity that arises to innovate and build vibrant communities.

Atsunai,

Chief Stanley George
